Fiscal Dates and Deadlines

Payroll source deductions – if you have an employee(s) the employer must deduct premiums from the employee’s paycheque and remit the deductions to the government. Monthly remittance is due by the 15th of the next month. i.e. January’s remittance is due by February 15th.

HST filing – If you collect GST or HST you need to remit the HST to the government, commonly quarterly (every 3 months). Quarterly remittance is due by the 30th of the next month, i.e. the first quarter includes Jan, Feb and Mar, and remittance is due by April 30th.

WSIB dues – if you have an employee(s) you have to pay Workplace Safety Insurance dues for the employee(s). Quarterly remittance is due by the 30th of the next month, i.e. the first quarter includes Jan, Feb and Mar, and remittance is due by April 30th, the same date as typical HST remittance

Tax filing – Tax files that have an owing balance are due with payment by April 30th of the next fiscal year, i.e. An owing tax return for 2016 is due by April 30th 2017

Tax filing – Tax returns that have a credit balance or a zero balance are due by June 15th of the next fiscal year. i.e. A credit balance or a zero balance tax return for 2016 is due by June 15th 2017

T4 and R.O.E. filing – The CRA requires that T4 slips be submitted each year by the last day in February. Also the CRA requires that a Record of Employment be filled out and filed online with the CRA within one week of the last day employed
